Drs Biery & Paulette have changed their business name to: Mountain View Dental Team located in Harrisonburg, VA
Customer service here is horrendous. At first they seem nice and friendly, but they are not professionals AT ALL. NO common courtesy. Doctors are incompetent and never in the location. My mother had been trying to get dental implants and I was the one to encourage her to come to this place. Worst regret of my life. I had confidence in the doctors, who almost forgot to put anesthesia on my mother before removing all her teeth. My mother had a panic attack because the doctor was yanking at her teeth as if they were weeds. Disgraceful staff as well. I have been trying to come to professional terms and have a clean termination of services, which they cancelled on me. Instead I believe I may have claims to abandonment, since I wasn't even given a timely notice until the day of her rescheduled appointment that services had been terminated. I have been trying for three months to speak with the staff manager who apparently never has to work in the office.
Honestly the only reason I begged my mother to come here was because they spoke Spanish. Well I learned to late only the office staff speak Spanish and one dental assistant, the doctors do not. I will never recommend this place to anyone, Latino or Caucasian, they will treat you like crap and do not try to help clients.

How do you find an inexpensive honest dentist? When I did have insurance it was still way too expensive and they do exrays an all and I didn't get my free cleaning at all, that they said I would. now I don't have any insurance and know what i need done, 2 dentist have given me an estimate that is so crazy over cost. Where is a dentist that will let you pay in small payments and is very good and I would not be afraid of?
Raven Blanco was eight years old when she died shortly after she visited the dentist and received what the Virginia Board of Dentistry said was "three times the average range" of sedatives. Critics say the explosion of dentists treating young patients using sedation is fueled in part by the desire to increase profits by treating pediatric patients more quickly and efficiently by sedating them. Death, Greed at the Dentist: American Children at Risk >>>
Dental offices use sedation for children instead of holding them down to complete work. More children than you would think are petrified of the dentist. The sounds of the drill, the smells of cleaning supplies and the instruments used in dentistry can terrify anyone.
Sedation is a way of giving people the care that they need?
Tragic Results When Dental Care Is Out Of Reach
No one should die because of a toothache. Please watch this PBS Special:
Millions of Americans are ending up in the emergency room instead of the dentists chair when they have problems with their teeth sometimes even when they have insurance.
So here is some no nonsense, straight talk advice to you and your family to save money and their mouth from BAD dentistry.
1. Shop around.
2. Check with the dental insurance company to see what your dentist is billing them.
3. Negotiate every procedure.
4. If it's expensive get a second opinion. You might just find that they are just trying to rip you off! If they are trying to steal money from you get the word out. Report them and work to shut them down.

I just had my first experience with these quacks and will never go back. I'm also a social worker with DSS and used to refer children there because they accepted Medicaid but did not kow what they were all about. Needless to say I will NEVER refer anyone there again. After seeing them they told me I needed all of my teeth pulled and extensive work done. The first "treatment plan" stated I would need to pay 10,000 out of pocket!!! When I left, I obtained a copy of my records and the final "treatment plan" they were going to propose would have cost me $34,000!!! These people are crooks and need to have their license removed!!! The dentist looked at my teeth a total of 60 seconds and took one x-ray and decided I needed $34,000 worth of work done!!!! Please stay away from these quacks!!! They told me that my insurance paid a total of 1500 per year. I looked in my file and saw a print out of what my insurance would pay and it was much more than what I was told by them!!! Can we say DOUBLE DIPPING??!!! They need to be run out of town.
Along with prescribing work that does not need to be done, we are also ripped off because we have insurance!!! We have to pick up the slack for the majority of their MEDICAID practice!!! STAY AWAY!!!
The board put Dr. Kathryn Biery on indefinite probation, for at least two years, ordered her to take continuing education classes and fined her $24,000, according to Leigh Kiczales, of the Virginia Department of Health Professions Administrative Proceedings Division. - http://www.webquake.net/ocmb/viewtopic.php?t=23860
I read all of these warnings after I went to their office for a cleaning and exam. I also had my two small children seen there. I AM SO GLAD I DIDNT SEE THIS BEFORE I WENT! Everyone was so nice and my kids loved it. My kids got a great report and I only needed one small filling. They took care of my insurance for me and the cost wasn't that much higher than any other dentist with their experience. We got in at the same time and I was able to have my filling done that week. That really stinks that people on here are painting this ugly picture...
Our family is very pleased with Mountain View Dental of Harrisonburg VA
These stories sound so similiar to my experience. I took my son to Beiry and Paulette for a cleaning. They told me he needed a few caps/crowns and had several cavities. They gave me the estimate, with two visits, for around $2000!!!! I knew I was being taken for a ride, and even though they were wonderful with him when they cleaned his teeth, I took him to another dentist for a second opinion, and was told he had one cavity. ONE and I saw the X-rays to prove it! I have since warned everyone about Biery and Paulette. Unless you have a fortune to spend on your teeth, and willing to undergo unnecessary treatments - stay away from them.

Is dishonest dentistry a trend? Have you noticed a decline in honesty? Have you seen what some Doctors do to people on the show American Justice?
One show Includes a nurse suspected of killing babies in her hospital's pediatric intensive care unit; a doctor charged with nine counts of second degree murder; and the owner of the "Personal Best" plastic surgery centers who was accused of allowing his chauffeur to perform medical duties and was hit with 212 malpractice suits.
Fight back against bad dentists in Harrisonburg VA!!!
Verify you need the treatment. A dentist may urge treatment that seems unusual or unneeded. Trust your instinct and delay the procedures until you verify you need them. For example: A dentist insists you need eight cavities drilled, and pressures you to do the drilling right away even though your teeth feel fine.
Get a second or third opinion. Visit two other dentists to confirm you need the treatments. Ask friends or colleagues for dentists they trust.
Check out dentists. Search there name on Google! Call your state insurance department and state dental board. Was the dentist disciplined for wrongdoing? Currently licensed? History of patient complaints?
Stay with your kids? Some dentists perform useless surgery on kids. Ask if you can stay in the treatment room to make sure you child is ok, the procedures are as painless as possible, and only the promised treatments are done. If the dentist asks that you not be present, find out why and make sure the explanation makes sense.
SAY NO to High-pressure sales tactics! If they sell unusually generous benefits at suspiciously low prices. Be especially careful if youre buying coverage as an individual or small business. Contact your state insurance department to ensure the plan is licensed in your state.
Its sad to think increased competition for a smaller and smaller consumer base may be driving dentists to dishonesty. Is dishonest dentistry a trend? Have you noticed a decline in honesty?

Drs Biery & Paulette Harrisonburg VA Reviews - Rip Off Reports
I used to work for another local dentist office in Harrisonburg VA, so I know that ALL insurance companies are not easy to work with, and a lot of billing procedures/prices set in place by dentists are all SUBJECT TO INSURANCE COMPANIES. It's not like dentists can just pick and choose a price for each patient. Once again, it's not that simple. But enough about ignorant people posting their angriness away!
I recently had my wisdom teeth taken out by Dr. Paulette, and although it was painful (duh. most dental work like that probably will be), Dr. Paulette did amazing work, and the whole office was extremely nice and helpful. I was VERY nervous, but they did their best to put me at ease, and now, my mouth feels SO MUCH BETTER! I would recommend ANYONE looking for a great, friendly dentist office to Drs. Biery and Paulette (recently changed to Mountain View Dental Team, which I discovered during my wisdom teeth appointment)!
Im so not surprised by these remarks, Dr Biery & Paulette were referred to me by a family friend. I took my 2 yr old son to them they told me he had 7 cavaties and needed 2 crowns again i wasnt able to see all the xrays and was not able to go back with him. He had sleep apnea and acid refluxe I found out after all was said and done that he had stop breathing while he was under.
Needless to say we took him to a new dentist , Dr Anne Marie Boggs and found out he didnt need the crowns and she couldnt find half the work they said they did, We didnt have dental insurance on our son since he was only 2 we ended up paying over 2000.00 out of packet
I also had a friend use them and they did a so called over hall on his mouth he now has crowns and bridges falling out nd alot of dental problems and they paid hold your breath 30,000.00 yes i said 30,000.00 out of pocket yrs later they are still paying for his bad dental work.......
Sad to know that there are ppl Dentist who we trust and respect that lie and take our money.
My daughter went there and had 2 cavities to get filled a month later I got the money together to get them done and when I took her back they said she had 8 cavities now.
They would not let me go with her in the when they were working on her and I never seen the xrays.
Please before you put your children trough this GET A SECOND OPINION. I should have, but didn't even with insurance my out of pocket was $1200.
I have a good friend whose wife went for a visit because of one bad tooth. Drs Biery and Paulette told her she had a lot of cavities, (20), that needed serious attention. They never showed her the X-Rays but told her if she would pay up front that day on a credit card, she would receive a $300.00 discount. Her husband had her go to another dentist for a second opinion - the second dentist informed her she only had one cavity.
Long story short, it took months to get his $2000.00 credit card payment refunded. The only reason he got it back was because he finally contacted the credit card company.
But even worse than that, I cringe to think that they would have drilled 19 cavities that didn't exist.
My daughter had to go to specialist to fix what they done!
What was a simple filling turned into her getting a root canal because they put to big of a filling in it as well as it was so inflamed the specialist had to numb it 4x!! We havent yet got to the front tooth they had done a root canal on which is now has to be pulled....all they believe in is gas gas gas which is dangerous as they have learned from experience?!

Drs. Biery and Paulette are by far the best dentists in the Harrisonburg area. All of these other postings are probably from disgruntled patient's who don't understand you actually have to brush and take care of your teeth BEFORE and AFTER you get work done. Dentists don't magically fix your mouth and then your set for life. You have to take care of your mouth for your whole life. If only it could be so simple; but it's not, so I'm thankful I found honest, hardworking dentists like them.

Most dentists are honest, ethical professionals who provide their patients competent and caring treatment. A small but disturbing number of dentists, however, are dishonest. They exploit their position of authority to bilk trusting patients with useless treatment, and shady billing practices.
You and your team seem to be nice but you are wolves in disguise! You cheat people and you don't honor your treatment plans! I was a fool who paid you upfront and didn't get what I paid for! You have filed bankruptcy owing me a lot of money and your attorney won't return my calls. I guess I'm out the money but I hope this message spreads to warn others - DON'T PAY UPFRONT. PAY AS YOU GO and get a second opinion on the amount they are going to charge BEFORE you have it done.
I've been told by another dentist it isn't necessary to have temporary crowns in all cases and unless you have a GAG REFLEX it is unnecessary to pay $2000 a visit for anesthesia. Get everything in writing!
Fortunately before I bought into all the bad press I scheduled an appointment just to check out the office. I was pleasantly surprised how different it actually was. I recommended to my family to see Dr. Paulette for any extractions because he did a great job on three of my molars. Now I see Dr. Shaqman (who is part of the practice) for routine exams who is very good as well.
