Drummer here, Looking for a Blues band. I am in Stanley 30 min E. of Harrisonburg I have a PA and practice space. Have a good Bass player who would be interested. All Blues welcome. If any one here is interested give me a call 540-742-0944
Amen, Mr. Anonymous. I would only add that the more you get out and play, the quicker your sound develops and the chance of hooking up with the "right" players increases dramatically.
If only we could pool our resources and develop some of our own gigs and events, and share in the $$$ and cross-promote together and etc., etc. ...
We could kick some serious entertainment _ _ _ and have a blast doing it. Mark B would throw us all his support. No one player can do this.
If you want to make a difference, no bull _ _ _ _, respond on this forum with contact info, or e-mail me at dwcharlestown@aol.com.
Don't give up searching and you won't if you're a true bluesman! I've been playing for forty years. It's not about doing material to please an audience. It's about pleasing yourself first. I've heard from others that you need to do this music or that music to get an audience. The bottom line is, why are you working so hard to get an audience, playing tunes you don't like, so you can play gigs that typically doesn't pay much money. You do what is in your heart, and you hope others like it, and they will. If they don't, you've at least can feel a degree of self-satisfaction in being true to yourself. If you're into it, the audience will be into it, no matter what style of music it is. A good audience wants to see a tight, dynamic & professional show with good tunes, not a typical bar band. Anything done professionally will attact an audience.
I put up the initial post...I've heard Winchester does indeed have some fine players....I'm about 10 miles north of Charlottesville...Winchester is a pretty fer piece to drive...Now, I don't mind drivin' to play the blues, but all the way to Wnchstr on a regular basis would be tough.
Again, you're in Winchester/Charles Town area. Still a long haul from Staunton/Waynesboro area to rehearse or gig. Wouldn't mind the drive to gig but difficult to try & work in practice time during the week.
There are plenty of good bluesmen in this area. I currently play bass in two gigging blues bands with different styles and song lists. Have decent practice space w/ PA in Charles Town. Would consider playing bass in another blues group, or managing another blues group. E-mail me to discuss. dwcharlestown@aol.com.
One of my bands is hosting an open blues Jam this Sat 4/4 in Hagerstown.
Begins around 7:30 - 11 pm.
Hagerstown Hotel(formerly Sheraton 4 Corners) on the Dual Hwy. 1910 Dual Hwy Hagerstown, MD 21740 (301) 790-3010
Frustrated as well, I'm a blues keyboard player and I have to drive from Waynesboro to Roanoke to find players! Locally it seems there's no real die hard blues players.
I absolutely agree with you. Been there done that. I'm a blues guitarist with loads of experience that's equally frustrated with the music scene. You didn't state what area you're from. I'm hoping near Winchester.
Tried my hand at rock, then country, since moving to the Valley 16 months ago....looking for bass, drums, guitar to play blues....Johnny Winter, Howlin' Wolf, RL Burnside, Buddy Guy, Watermelon Slim. Not much blues around here, but I believe with the right mix of songs, personnel and dedication to putting on a show every time, we can make it work.
serious musicians and inquiries only...."take the music seriously, but don't take yourself too seriously..." BUT the whole point of playin' music is to have fun, entertain the audience and maybe make a few bucks...
I play harmonica, and have 20+ years experience as a frontman. Professional attitude, equipment and performance ethics...I play the same for 20 people as I do for 800 people.
